One of my photo-friends discovered a shop in Sacramento, California, containing hundreds of used mannequins. Several of us have since returned numerous times to photograph the mannequins. Some have been refurbished and are waiting for new clothing stores to call home. Many more are in various states of disrepair, waiting for replacement parts, cleaning, and fresh makeup. All are photogenic, even charismatic, and more than a few are creepy, yet spending time with them is an amazing amount of fun.
Out of Context
Most of my photographs come together as small "projects", or series of images connected by location, subject, event, or some other context. Then there are other photos that don't fit into a project, don't tell part of a longer story, but are still interesting, maybe odd or unusual. There's a bit of a story behind each of these, but I think it's more fun to let them stand on their own, without explanation... Out of Context.
The Family of Mannequin
These are color images from the same location as "Quiet Hour in the Mannequin Asylum." Portraits of retired mannequins.
